Hanson Puts Motorsport Precinct into Top Gear with a $5 Million Dollar Cheque

Queensland Senator Pauline Hanson has lived up to her election promise for Townsville, officially kicking in a surprise $5 million dollars, to build North Queensland’s first Driver Education and Motorsport Facility in Calcium.

It came off the back of an election promise by Queensland One Nation leader Steve Dickson, who pledged a further $10 million dollars for the Townsville project if One Nation wins one or more seats in Townsville, Thuringowa, Mundingburra or Hinchinbrook.

Senator Hanson said, “In my first meeting with the Prime Minister, we had a lengthy discussion about the need for a driver education facility in North Queensland, after it was revealed emergency service staff were being forced to travel to Brisbane for driver training.”

“The time and work invested by the President of DriveIt NQ, Pat Driscoll and his members over the past ten years has finally paid off.”

Senator Hanson recalled her first meeting with Mr Driscoll who outlined a business model that not only saved lives, but injected $35 million dollars annually into the local economy and created a minimum of 90 full time jobs.

“This was one of the few non-for-profit organisations that had a solid business model ,which made itself sustainable once it was up and running. It made it very easy for me to lobby the Government and have this funding made available,” Senator Hanson said.

“The cost of road trauma across Australia is in the tens of billions of dollars and I’ve long called for a compulsory driver program for all first time license holders, including international motorists. This facility puts us one step closer to that goal and I’m sure parents will make the most of their services once it is up and running.”

“This driving facility will save lives throughout North Queensland and I’m thrilled to have played a part in ensuring it gets off the ground.”
