Making Offshore Oil and Gas Giants Pay Their Fair Share Could Fund Aged Care Reforms

MEDIA RELEASE

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is calling for offshore oil and gas giants operating in Australia to fund the Royal Commissions’ recommendations into Aged Care and avoid raising taxes on workers and small businesses.

“Before we ask taxpayers to fund the Royal Commissions’ recommendations through increases to the Medicare Levy, Government should be forcing multinational oil and gas companies to pay their fair share of tax for the resources taken from Commonwealth waters.”

“We are missing out on billions each year because of gutless politicians.”

More than $350 billion in Petroleum Resources Rent Tax (PRRT) credits have been accrued by oil and gas giants including Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, BHP, and ConocoPhillips.

Senator Hanson said, “It’s likely these companies will pay little to no tax on the gas they take in the future, particularly those off Western Australia.”

“If we want to pay for aged care reform, NDIS, increases to unemployment benefits, and general services provided by Government, we must make multi-national companies pay for the commodities they’re taking from off our coastline.”

“If it’s good enough for the Government to go after tech giants, it’s time to tackle the world’s oil and gas companies.”

“These people are the biggest tax dodgers in the world, and until we do something about tax avoidance by multinationals, Mum and Dad workers will continue to bear the expense through increased taxes.”

Senator Hanson is calling on Prime Minister, Scott Morrison to phase out PRRT tax credits over the next 10 years and create a sovereign wealth fund by implementing a transaction tax on oil and gas companies.

“There’s no excuse why these offshore projects can’t pay a flat tax of between 5% to 10% based on the meters that measure their production.”

“The current arrangement between Government and gas companies is not to the benefit of Australians and needs fixing immediately before gas production doubles over the next 20 years.”

“Every single politician will one day be a patient in an aged care facility. We can either fix the problem now or eventually experience first hand how dire the system has become.”

REGARDING THE USE OF PRIVILEGE IN A CASE UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE AFP

Statement – Senator Pauline Hanson

There is no fairness in this case for either side.

This case can never be tried in a court.  The use of privilege to label a person as an alleged rapist – with the knowledge the alleged victim can never be cross examined – is not something I would support.

Parliament and those who sit in it are by definition political. The place and its people are not objective and operate daily based on their own biases.

The loss of a life by suicide is a terrible tragedy for all concerned and I believe the most objective and unbiased way to investigate this matter, if possible, is a coronial inquiry.

SENATE INQUIRY INTO AUSTRALIA POST SCANDAL SUPPORTED

MEDIA RELEASE

Senator Pauline Hanson described the successful passage of her motion to refer matters leading to the standing down of Australia Post CEO, Ms Christine Holgate, to a Senate Committee for inquiry as “a giant step toward achieving some justice for Christine Holgate as well as the 80,000 staff and contractors of Australia Post”.

“You don’t get to falsely and savagely trash the career of one of the nation’s most successful business leaders for no reason and then get away with it.

“Christine Holgate should never have been made a political pawn – she’s an outstanding human being who’s achieved remarkable results at Australia Post for its stakeholders, 80,000 employees, around 2,900 Licensed Post Offices and who has the support of the unions.

“Her skills, determination and dedication have driven Australia Post to become the envy of its international counterparts.

“Having One Nation’s motion pass today means the Senate can now make a genuine effort to get to the bottom of this whole appalling saga.

“Senator Roberts and I will continue our efforts to ensure Christine Holgate is given the voice she deserves

“Subject to the inquiry’s finding and recommendations, Ms Holgate’s resumption of her duties as CEO is certainly one outcome we can hope for, along with an apology from the Prime Minster and a recanting of his savage comments. ”

PM’S APPALLING TREATEMENT OF CHRISTINE HOLGATE DESERVES SENATE INQUIRY

MEDIA RELEASE

Senator Hanson today delivered a speech in the Senate regarding the treatment of Ms Christine Holgate. The speech was unexpectedly cut short and below is the remainder of the speech which is particularly focussed on the actions and reactions by the Prime Minister, his relevant Minsters and the Chair of Australia Post.

“Instead, as loyal Liberal Party members they made a statement that did not support their CEO

“The Prime Minister this morning is widely quoted as boasting in regard to another matter, and I quote – “My standards don’t change”.

“That’s a real shame – especially when we see the damage his standards and those of his Ministers and Liberal-friendly board members have so far done to Christine Holgate, reputationally, financially and in terms of her health.

“The Prime Minister should be saying his double standards don’t change.

“Just look at NBN, where Tom McIlroy reported in the AFR last week, the company paid staff nearly $80 million dollars in bonuses in the second half of 2020. That’s 80 million dollars including a bonus of $1.2 million to the CEO taking his package to more than $3 million – almost double what was paid to Ms Holgate.

“Where’s the Prime Minister’s outrage?

“Where was the government’s outrage when the previous CEO of Australia Post quit and walked away with a package of almost $11 million after gifting executives cash and cars?

“And when the current Chair of Australia Post denied ever seeing the BCG Report into the sustainability of Australia Post  forgetting he flew to Canberra to discuss the report with the relevant Ministers and conveniently forgetting the five and a half hour board meeting he called to discuss the report?

“Where’s the Prime Minister’s outrage on those statements?

“The Prime Minister’s actions, and the actions of the Australia Post Chair and board over Ms Holgate, have so far cost what – around 350 thousand dollars to launch a new global search for a replacement to Ms Holgate?

“Perhaps a million or two for the Maddox Inquiry?

“The loss of confidence of Australia Post’s 80,000 employees and the effects on performance?

“The loss of business opportunities put in front of Australia Post’s existing management without Ms Holgate?

“The potential payout to Ms Holgate should she launch legal proceedings against Australia Post and its board? Maybe in the tens of millions of dollars?

“The message sent to any incoming CEO of any major government-related corporation that they’ll be thrown under the bus when the board does the bidding of it’s political masters.”

The following two paras were delivered as the conclusion of this morning’s speech:

“All over 20 thousand dollars worth of watches that Ms Holgate was fully authorised to present in keeping with normal commercial practice that rewarded one of the most financially advantageous deals in the history of Australia Post.

“The actions of the Prime Minister, his relevant Ministers and the Chair and Board of Australia Post and their appalling treatment of Ms Holgate, deserve nothing less than a Senate Inquiry.”

Hanson Says “Ban Nazi and Isis Symbols”

MEDIA RELEASE

Senator Pauline Hanson today called on the Coalition and Labor to join with One Nation in enacting legislation to ban the display and use of Nazi and ISIS symbols.

“I believe the overwhelming majority of Australians would support a ban on the Nazi and ISIS symbols,” Senator Hanson said today

Senator Hanson described the range of symbols used by the Nazis and ISIS as ”the ultimate symbols of hate, extremism, barbarity and terror”.

“People who wear or parade these symbols have lost all sense of decency. They’re clearly promoting racial hatred and vilification and at the very least are in breach of Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.

“ISIS have inspired the deaths of more than 1200 people in countries outside their major areas of activity in Iraq and Syria. Nearly half of those attacks have been aimed at Westerners.

“Nazis on the other hand were responsible for the brutal extermination of more than 6 million Jews and other minority groups during the holocaust and their Final Solution actions of World War 2.

“These symbols aren’t fancy dress – they’re a stark and cruel reminder to survivors and their families of mass killing, oppression, gas chambers and terrorist attacks.

“They’re symbols that rekindle fear and even terror in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of Australians. Holocaust survivors and their extended families along with immigrants from ISIS dominated countries in the middle east know too well what the symbols stand for.

“And by protecting those who display them by not banning their use and display across the nation the Federal Government is contributing to those feelings of fear.

“Germany, Austria, France, Luthuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Brazil and Israel have all banned Nazi symbols and it’s considered a criminal offence if they are displayed publicly for non-educational purposes.

“The ban should also apply to all video and electronic games that use either of these symbols and are sold in Australia.

“Labor and the Coalition are happy to ban bikie colours, but both have sat on their hands when it comes to Nazi and ISIS extremists who continue to act as a serious threat to Australians.”

SENATOR HANSON CAUTIONS AGAINST VACCINE CELEBRATIONS

Media Release

Senator Pauline Hanson described today’s provisional approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in Australia as “a step in the right direction but by no means a reason for wild celebrations”.

“This is only provisional approval,” she cautioned.

“I call on the Prime Minister to ensure there is no consideration given to the mandating of the COVID vaccine – especially at this early stage in the approvals process.

“Australia has an incredibly low caseload of COVID infections by any standard and that should mean we have the breathing space to properly evaluate the dangers and effectiveness of any vaccine without rushing to judgement.

“I’ve said all along that vaccination should be a matter of personal choice and that remains my position.

“By its own admission the TGA has a long way to go before we can all be satisfied the vaccine is safe for the overwhelming majority of Australians to use.

“Today’s provisional approval is on the basis of preliminary clinical data only and the TGA will now monitor the vaccine’s safety as it is rolled out. As Professor Skerrit said today the TGA’s job is by no means done.” Senator Hanson added.

Statement on WA Election Travel

MEDIA RELEASE

With just 64 days until the Western Australian election, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has informed State leader Colin Tincknell and Mining and Pastoral MLC, Robin Scott that unpredictable travel conditions will prevent her from taking part in the state election campaign.

The decision comes as the Queensland Government informed greater Brisbane residents that the state’s capital, Redlands, Ipswich, Moreton, and surrounding regions will go into lockdown from 6 pm Friday.

The three-day lockdown which was endorsed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison will restrict movement unless for essential reasons including receiving healthcare or support for a vulnerable person, essential shopping within a person’s local area, and exercise in your local neighbourhood.

Senator Hanson said, “I had planned to help Western Australian candidates campaign in January, but those plans have been dashed due to the discovery of the highly infectious UK strain here in Queensland.”

“Could you imagine what the media would write if, for some unforeseen reason, I bought a case of coronavirus to Western Australia? No thanks.”

“We have witnessed interstate travellers forced into hotel quarantine following border closures mid-journey, and I’m afraid Premier Mark McGowan would deem campaigning as non-essential travel and therefore leave me locked up for 14-days.”

The One Nation leader praised the efforts of her parties WA Members in their strong fight to stop Labor’s Gold Tax and crippling Rock Lobster legislation.

“Without Colin Tincknell and Robin Scott, Western Australia’s gold mining industry would have been destroyed and so too the rock lobster industry.”

“They single-handedly put an end to laws that would have devastated two world-renowned industries.”

“I strongly believe Western Australia is better off with One Nation’s influence in the Legislative Council and while Mark McGowan holds a significant prospect of re-election, he mustn’t control both the lower and upper house in WA.”

“Voters may be satisfied with the job Mark McGowan has done keeping COVID levels low in the state, but with a vaccine due to roll out in February, people need to think about the state’s economy post-pandemic.”

“One Nation continues to be the voice of the people because we don’t arrogantly dismiss the issues of grassroots voters.”

“Malcolm Roberts and I have an enormous year ahead of us, particularly in the space of family law and industrial relations.”

Senator Hanson’s Joint Select Committee on Australia’s Family Law System will hand down its final report on February 25, 2021, with the One Nation leader refusing to miss that opportunity.

Federal Parliament returns
on February 2, 2021.

Stop The Great Australian Resource Rip-Off

STATEMENT

You might not know it but Australia has the weakest oil and gas laws in the world, and it is costing all of us billions of dollars in lost income.

Australia is the world’s biggest exporter of natural gas, yet we as a nation earn very little income from those exports.

These destructive laws have been exploited by clever corporate lawyers who have locked up our reserves for the likes of Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, and ConocoPhillips.

Gas sourced from our own natural reserves is now sold more cheaply overseas than we can buy it here. It’s ironic that Australian gas provides China with 10% of its total energy needs while Australians themselves can’t source enough of this valuable energy source.

In 2004, rebates for exploration work and claims on expenses were introduced by the Government, enabling the foreign mega-companies to stockpile $360 billion in tax credits (to date) for their operations. The credits are able to be rolled over, year after year, meaning Australia will never be compensated for oil and gas taken from the north west shelf.

Your readers can imagine the benefits to every Australian if multi-national oil and gas companies were forced to pay a fair level of tax on our resources that they extract and sell off overseas. Better and cheaper availability of our natural gas would provide a reliable source of power for Australian industry, which would help our manufacturing and the economy.

I believe the “legal theft” of our oil and gas needs to stop. How can we turn the economy around more effectively if we give up these massive funds without a fight?

This week, I introduced a Private Senator’s Bill to ensure future exploitation of oil and gas reserves is carried out for the benefit of the Australian community. The Bill will force multinationals who hoard gas leases to “use them or lose them” to companies that will procced to extract the gas for the use of Australians.

My Bill would also put an end to floating drilling and production platforms that are anchored to the seabed avoiding paying compensation through the domestic gas reserve policy in Western Australia.

While my Bill won’t change the failed tax laws (only the Government can do that), it is a baby step in the right direction to start counteracting the massive and unacceptable losses suffered from the sale of our oil and gas.

Australians force Govt action against predatory foreign ownership

MEDIA RELEASE

Ongoing pressure from One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, backed up by thousands of concerned Australians, resulted in the Government tightening its safeguards against predatory foreign investment.

But Senator Hanson warned the protections need to be bolstered further, so has urged Australians to remain unrelenting in their push for tighter rules, for the sake of the economy and jobs.

In March, Senator Hanson wrote to the Prime Minister and the Treasurer, asking them to stop all predatory foreign investment in the wake of the coronavirus downturn. In response, the Treasurer reduced the threshold for investment assessments by the Foreign Investment Review Board to $0.

The outcome comes as a One Nation prepares to table in the Senate a petition of more than 18,000 signatures from Australians expressing their wishes to stop predatory foreign takeovers.

“Australia is the envy of nations around the world so I don’t blame foreign investors for hovering like vultures, ready to snap up our assets when they come up for sale,” Senator Hanson said.

“This improvement comes only after decades of my warnings, so it shows how important it is to keep highlighting the shortfalls and for all of us to be relentless in demanding protections. We need to remain vigilant into the future to protect our jobs and economy.”

Successive governments have presided over and contributed to weak foreign investment safeguards that have enabled high levels of unchecked investment by foreign governments, corporations and individuals. Unfortunately, Free Trade Agreements with various nations like China, the USA, Japan, Singapore and others, allow them to purchase non-sensitive businesses valued up to $1.19b without FIRB scrutiny.

The One Nation petition comes as China, for example, continues to buy up Australian businesses through its FTA rights while also ramping up bans on coal, copper ore, barley, red wine, timber, sugar and seafood.

Currently, over 50% of wholesale trade, over 40% of manufacturing, over 35% of mining, and over 25% of electricity businesses in Australia are foreign owned. Senator Hanson warns this level of foreign ownership is dangerous and damaging to Australia’s economy and creates an unacceptable threat to national security.

The petitioners asked the Senate to: “Take immediate steps to protect Australians from the negative effects inflicted on them by the current level of foreign ownership and ensure that the rules, regulations and transparency requirements governing foreign ownership in Australia are significantly strengthened.”

Statement From Senator Pauline Hanson On Superannuation

MEDIA RELEASE

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has indicated she will support the 0.5% increase to superannuation in July 2021 but is calling on Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg to clarify the purpose of Australia’s multi-trillion dollar retirement fund.

Senator Hanson said, “If the purpose of superannuation today is to increasingly fund caravan and land cruiser sales, it’s succeeding.”

“But if it’s the purpose of superannuation is to give workers of today a better, self-funded lifestyle in their twilight years without taking a taxpayer-funded pension, it’s failing.”

“I think a growing number of Australian’s have forgotten what superannuation is there for.”

“While the money belongs to the employee, it wasn’t designed to be cashed out as a lump sum and blown, only to leave a person on a government pension for the rest of their lives.”

“People should not be encouraged to squander their superannuation. It defeats the purpose of the scheme.”

“If we don’t re-clarify the purpose of superannuation now, we might as well just give these increases to people through their pay packets.”
